Out of Control Social Media/Big Tech Censorship: Facebook Censored the Declaration of Independence
Well, I thought the social media censorship couldn’t get any worse. After they kicked Trump off every platform, canceled by Twitter account (which had 70,000 followers) without warning, deplatformed a host of other conservatives, and committed various other anti-free speech actions, I thought that was as bad as it could get. Boy was I wrong. Turns out, even the cornerstone of American independence is too offensive for Zuckerberg’s monopoly; Facebook censored the Declaration of Independence.
And no, this isn’t some clickbait, fake news story. I find that sort of thing reprehensible. It’s a fact, an unfortunate, salacious one, but a fact nonetheless, that Facebook censored the Declaration of Independence. Here’s what happened according to Breitbart:
“Facebook removed an excerpt from the U.S. Declaration of Independence, claiming the text violated the social network’s policies on “hate speech.”
The Liberty County Vindicator had been uploading the Declaration of Independence in parts to their Facebook page, only for the tenth part to be removed by the social network.”
Breitbart also reported that:
“Though the newspaper is unsure why the text was removed, they presumed it was due to the Declaration of Independence’s use of the term “merciless Indian Savages.”’
For those that don’t remember the full text, here’s the portion of the Declaration to which Breitbart is referring:
“He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us, and has endeavoured to bring on the inhabitants of our frontiers, the merciless Indian Savages, whose known rule of warfare, is an undistinguished destruction of all ages, sexes and conditions.”
So, Facebook censored the Declaration of Independence because it found Thomas Jefferson’s beautiful, timeless words “offensive” and “hate speech.” Is there no level these Big Tech tyrants won’t stoop to?
Of course, the biased fact-checkers won’t say this story is true. PolitiFact, in an absurd article, rated the story only “half true.” Here’s what one of PolitiFact’s many lying, far left fact-checkers, Bill McCarthy, had to say:
“In the lead-up to the Fourth of July holiday, Facebook removed a post containing sections of the Declaration of Independence as hate speech. Stories detailing the incident have been gaining traction ever since, so we decided to examine what happened…
…What the story does not tell you: Facebook said removing the post was an accident and restored it a day later.”
So, because Facebook responded to popular outrage and restored a post celebrating American heritage after censoring and removing it for a full day, that somehow means the story is only have true? Give me a break.
The leftist liars at Snopes said the same thing:
Facebook algorithms were apparently alerted to the use of the phrase “Indian savages” in one part of the Declaration of Independence in one scheduled Facebook post in July 2018, and that post was automatically withheld from publication for about one day.
After Facebook employees reviewed the post, they determined that the algorithm had made an error by not recognizing the context of the phrase, and they restored the post a day later. Facebook did not flag the entire Declaration of Independence as hate speech, but only one out of twelve excerpts from the complete text.”
So, according to Snopes, it’s incorrect to say that Facebook censored the Declaration of Independence because it only censored one excerpt. Got it. Those foolish, fraudulent hacks don’t care about the truth just as Facebook doesn’t care about America. Or, frankly, perhaps Snopes and PolitiFact stand actively against the truth in the same manner that Facebook actively attacks American heritage. They’re just committed to protecting the left and shielding leftist institutions from criticism.
Why It Matters
Now, you might be wondering why this story from 2018 is important. These days, what happened last month barely qualifies as relevant thanks to the 24/7 news cycle. But it’s important to look at all the facts, no matter when they happened. And this story is illuminating because it shows the roots of what’s going on now.
It doesn’t matter what you say when on a Big Tech-owned social media platform. They don’t care if they are censoring the ramblings of a lunatic or the beautiful, flowing words of one of the greatest Founding Fathers. All they care about is protecting the left and the left’s ideas.
Facebook censored the Declaration of Independence because Jefferson’s words offended its far left moderators. There was media outcry, so it had to reverse that decision, but it is important nevertheless. Just think about what it means. Facebook wanted to cancel the words of one of our most important Founding Fathers, and not even because they were untrue or inciting violence. It tried to cancel Thomas Jefferson’s most important work because of the vague notion of “hate speech.” Yet worse, had there not been public outcry over it doing such an abominable thing, that could have been allowed to stand! Had the story not gone viral, Facebook could have censored the Declaration of Independence indefinitely!
And now it’s censoring and canceling all of us. Trump, Mike Lindell, Mike Flynn, and many, many others have been censored and silenced by the tech oligarchs. The veracity of their posts is irrelevant to Facebook and Twitter. What they actually said couldn’t matter less. Facebook just wants to protect leftist ideas. It canceled Jefferson because of “hate speech,” Trump because a few wackos took his words the wrong way, and Mike Lindell because he was posting inconvenient truths (inconvenient for the left, that is).
And this story that Facebook censored the Declaration of Independence is important because it shows the roots of what’s happening today. Social media censorship is not a new issue. It’s been happening for years and we’ve stood idly by while Zuckerberg and the others tried to cancel a Founding Father and hide American heritage.
We can no longer behave in that manner. If even the Declaration of
Independence can be censored, what is allowed? Any conservative still using Facebook could lose their page at any time if one of the cancel culture Red Guards at Facebook decides that what they’re saying is no longer acceptable. Ditch it. Stop funding the looney left.
