As former Chicago Mayor, Chief of Staff of the Obama White House, and Democratic Party philosopher Rahm Emanuel once explained, “You never let a serious crisis go to waste.” This has been a Democrat mantra for a long time now. We’ve seen it with the COVID pandemic as Democrats across the country tried to use the virus as justification for every pet project they could think of, and we’re seeing it again as they try to use self-inflicted skyrocketing gas prices as a rationale for pushing a far-left green agenda.
Attempting to make political hay amidst tragedies and adversity is on page one of the Democrats’ political playbook. But seldom have we seen a bolder and more reprehensible example than the one we saw today from failed Democratic Senate and presidential candidate, and current Texas gubernatorial candidate Beto O’Rourke.
In the aftermath of yesterday’s horrific elementary school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, Republican Governor Gregg Abbott was providing an update along with law enforcement and other government officials. O’Rourke apparently felt this would be a good time to grandstand and win some political points as he interrupted the proceedings to blame Abbott himself for the carnage. Watch:
Holding elected officials to account isn’t only appropriate, it’s important. That’s why we have elections. But attempting to draw attention to oneself with the obvious intention of gaining a political advantage in an upcoming election less than 24-hours after 21 people were murdered including 19 children is beyond disgraceful. It’s also extremely stupid.
O’Rourke can be heard shouting, “This is totally predictable.” We can also hear in the video, Texas Republican Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick scolding O’Rourke, “You’re out of line and an embarrassment.” Additionally, we can hear Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), who crushed O’Rourke in his bid for one of Texas’ Senate seats, shouting, “Sit down and don’t play this stuff.”
O’Rourke was mostly drowned out by the barking of, “Sir, you’re out of line! Please leave this auditorium. I can’t believe you sick son of a bitch would come to a deal like this to make a political issue.”

As O’Rourke was being escorted out by officers, he pauses, turns around, and says, “It’s on you,” as he points his finger at Abbott before being drowned out with, “It’s on assholes like you! Why don’t you get the hell out of here?!”
O’Rourke is undoubtedly feeling very proud of himself this afternoon, believing he’s helped his campaign. But he hasn’t. Polls had already been showing O’Rourke trailing Abbott by double-digits, which may be part of the reason he chose to pull today’s stunt. But if he thinks this nonsense will help him close the gap, he’s sorely mistaken. You heard it here first. O’Rourke’s shenanigans today will backfire significantly, and he’ll get clobbered in November’s election because of it.
