For reasons that are still unclear, failed U.S. Senate and presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke thought it would be a good idea to run against the popular Greg Abbott to be elected Governor of Texas. Perhaps O’Rourke’s line of thinking went something like this: ‘I know I lost badly to Ted Cruz in the Senate race, and I know I was one of the first candidates to drop out in the presidential primaries, which were won by a geriatric Joe Biden… but my time is now. I can do this.’
It was flawed thinking from the beginning, and with Abbott’s solid approval ratings likely to be buoyed even further by his increasingly publicized effort to highlight our immigration crisis at the southern border by shipping illegal immigrants to blue cities in the northeast, O’Rourke is sliding from a long-shot candidate to a punchline.
O’Rourke’s candidacy has been mostly laughable for months now, including his grandstanding stunt in May at a government press conference after the horrific Uvalde shooting. Indeed, Beto’s decision-making acumen is highly questionable. But after what we witnessed yesterday in the deep-red town of Rockdale, Texas, O’Rourke’s lousy judgment has been taken to a new level.
Watch as pro-Abbott supporters humiliate O’Rourke, and for those of you on the left, this is what a truly peaceful protest looks like… with a few F-bombs sprinkled in (vulgar language alert):

What possessed you to visit Rockdale, Beto? What in heaven’s name were you thinking? Next time, stick to Austin and a few of the other Democratic urban hotspots. Showing up at places like Rockdale is only going to embolden and energize your detractors, genius.

Make no mistake: This video and news of the episode are going viral in Rockdale and the surrounding area this morning, on social media and email messages, and at the local donut shop, and plenty of additional F-bombs are accompanying the news. ‘We showed that gun-grabbing, dirt-eating, tree-hugging, sissy-pants mo********er where he stands!’
Leftwing media and polling outlets have shown the race for governor tightening in the Lone Star State. Don’t believe it. If we learned nothing else in 2016 and 2020 it’s this: The left and their media use questionable polling results to boost leftwing candidates and dampen the enthusiasm of rightwing voters. There is no doubt that Abbott has a sizeable lead against O’Rourke, and the election is Abbott’s to lose.
In the meantime, Beto should look to more closely vet the places which he visits. His handlers might want to test the waters to ensure a wave of anti-Beto protesters aren’t waiting for the opportunity to shove “Abbott for Governor” signs in his face as he stops at the local Starbucks for a photo op. These types of optics are never good, no matter where you stand in the polling results, and they certainly can’t help a candidate’s psyche.
Or, better yet, here’s an even better suggestion, Beto: Just go away… far, far away.
