O’Rourke’s candidacy has been mostly laughable for months now, including his grandstanding stunt in May at a government press conference after the horrific Uvalde shooting. Indeed, Beto’s decision-making acumen is highly questionable. But after what we witnessed yesterday in the deep-red town of Rockdale, Texas, O’Rourke’s lousy judgment has been taken to a new level.
The Democrats don’t care about those dead kids, they care about power. They’re not looking for solutions, they’re looking to win elections. And they couldn’t care less about mourning parents and communities. When an opportunity presents itself, they’ll do whatever it takes to seize that moment, up to and including grandstanding at a proceeding as solemn as this one.
It’s all a matter of being taught safe and responsible use of firearms at home, by a knowledgeable and proficient adult, and having had a pistol or rifle in my own hands from age eight on, I speak from experience. Along with this, one should consider that Uncle Sam’s Army considers an eighteen-year-old reliable enough that it issues them M4s and rocket launchers and seats them in M1A2 Abrams tanks and behind fully automatic M60 or M249 machine guns.
Holding elected officials to account isn’t only appropriate, it’s important. That’s why we have elections. But attempting to draw attention to oneself with the obvious intention of gaining a political advantage in an upcoming election less than 24-hours after 21 people were murdered including 19 children is beyond disgraceful. It’s also extremely stupid.
Robert Francis O’Rourke might not be the sharpest tool in the shed, as the banal generalities he fills that interview with show, but, apparently, he’s smart enough to grasp that being seen with President Brandon, whose approval ratings are sinking like a rock, won’t help him out. Unfortunately for him, that one bright thought probably won’t matter; as the protester said, O’Rourke has already lost twice. Texans don’t want him in charge.
Before we examine Bush’s foolishness, we must first recognize a job well done. It’s unclear exactly who is responsible for determining membership in “The Squad,” but whoever that group or individual is, they are doing a fantastic job. For a group wishing to maintain a prominent level of knuckleheadedness – and that group already included AOC, Rashida Tlaib, and Ilhan Omar – they must be certain to guard against letting in any run-of-the-mill-idiot.
