But it’s not just large and midsize employers that have had enough of Chicagoland crime. Small business owners like Jessica Nguyen have had to close their doors due to devastating burglaries and criminal harassment, and Mayor Lightfoot has even taken the bizarre approach of proactively shutting down small businesses with the intention of reducing surging gang-related crime: an ass-backward governmental strategy if ever there was one.
But what’s even more disturbing about the man’s actions is his brazenness. He’s walking casually by Lum and her crew with a firearm on live television and then points it at them without a care in the world. Would such a troubling happening take place in a city that was tough-on-crime? If the man truly feared the repercussions of his actions, would he be so bold as to do what he did on live TV?
Clowns like Mayor Lightfoot and Democratic Governor J.B. Pritzker will use any possible excuse to shed blame for the problem. COVID is the reason for the violence, they’ll assert. They might accuse some type of racial inequity as the culprit. Or they may even blame inanimate objects such as guns as the reason why people are killing other people.
Last year’s murder rate in Chicago was the highest in a quarter-century as the violent crime rate skyrocketed across the city. After her constant demonization of law enforcement, Lightfoot’s relationship with the police is horrendous. She totally botched her handling of COVID and public-school closings. And citizens are fleeing the city in previously unseen numbers. Chicago is a hell hole, and Lightfoot is to blame.
Knucklehead of the week? On Christmas morning? Yes, and yes. When knuckleheadedness takes a holiday in this country, so will we. But until then, we will persist regardless of the calendar .This week’s winner seems to have been begging for this award since she came into office, yet Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot was always outdone by another knucklehead: but not this week.
